Rotary Sheds Projects

A rotary platform can be an extremely efficient method of milking large herds. Field Engineering & Construction has vast experience in building rotary platform and has completed numerous projects, which you can view on our projects page. No matter what the build or size farm, we focus on building a rotary shed to suit your specific needs.

It was a real bonus for me that Robert could do it all - the engineering stuff, plant, plumbing, even moving some existing grain silos. I wanted to incorporate the silos, a roller mill and some other plant from my existing old 50 bail rotary shed that we were replacing, into the new shed. Robert made some recommendations on the design of the new shed and I had my own ideas, which he was happy to accommodate. Robert was great to deal with and, as it was just him I dealt with on the project, there was no chance of a blame game.  The buck stopped with Robert. I dealt with one guy and he was accountable. It made my life easier because I'm busy farming. Once the build started it all went really smoothly. It was the first time Field Engineering & Construction had built an 80 bail rotary before. It was a large project and they handled it well. The workmanship is very good and Robert supplied, installed and now services the Waikato Milking Systems plant. I’d build with Field Engineering & Construction again and be happy to recommend them to other people.

This was the first time we’d built a cow shed and it was a new conversion. We came across Field Engineering & Construction through Russell Black Building who had built cow sheds for neighbours. I was really busy with project managing the conversion so the fact that Field Engineering & Construction offered a turn key solution for the cow shed meant they essentially project managed that and I had just one person to deal with – Rob – which was great as I was busy organising other aspects such as fencing, stock watering systems, irrigation etc. The shed design was decided by me and the sharemilkers with input from Rob and Russell Black. The build went smoothly and now the shed’s finished it’s going well – staff like it and there is good cow flow. I would use them again as one point of contact made things easy.

We started the shed build at the end of July and we started milking in it 11 October. So it was a really tight time frame for the build but the Field Engineering team delivered.  My wife’s parents had had a shed built by Field Engineering in the past and recommended them to us. This is the second shed we’ve built (the other one was done with a different crowd) and the workmanship of the Field Engineering shed stands out. It was built by Russell Black, who works with Field Engineering, and he does a great job.  Russell and Rob helped us with the design and we took aspects of our other cow shed we like and came up with a great end product. The turnkey solution made things easy. We’d definitely build with Field Engineering again.

Rylib Group has employed the services of Robert Kircher and his team at both Field Engineering Ltd and Waikato Milking Systems Timaru for the build of three Dairy Sheds in Mid Canterbury over recent years.
Robert offers a comprehensive turn key build package including the project management of the build through to complete installation of the Dairy Shed.  Field Engineering Ltd do all the Engineering requirements and Meal Feeding Systems and Timaru Milking Systems do all the plumbing and milking plant installation.
All of our shed builds have been on time and on budget, more importantly there have never been any financial variations to the contract.  Robert and his team are professional to deal with, they are courteous at all times, tidy on site and are always committed to doing a top quality job.
The job is never jeopardised by allowing his team or his sub-contractors to use lessor quality materials to that on the contract to improve profit lines.  Integrity is crucial to them and it shows on the job.
We would not hesitate to recommend Robert and his team and would be happy to discuss with anyone considering using their services.

This was my first shed build and I knew with a project of this size there is plenty of room for errors so it was essential to make sure there was good planning and communication between the client and contractors. Field Engineering & Construction contacted me after hearing that we were looking to build a new cow shed. They seemed very organised and put forward a competitive package. I had a good working relationship with Robert and his team. They have a large amount of cow shed construction experience so we used that to ensure we had the best outcome for the project. They made allowances for any specific design requirements and also made useful suggestions.
Field Engineering & Construction offers a huge amount of experience constructing cow sheds. They have a highly skilled and hard working team that was always punctual with construction deadlines.

This was our first dairy conversion and Alex was working full time at another job so a big plus for us was that Robert offered a turn key package. That took a lot of the risk out of it for us as rather than just hand us a plan and step aside Robert was responsible for managing the whole project and the package was still competitively priced against other building options that we would have had to manage ourselves. We had done a lot of research so we had a good idea of the type of shed we wanted. During the project Robert was really open minded about any changes or suggestions we put forward as well as coming up with new ideas himself. Because it was a fixed price contract Robert provided a schedule of payments which made it really easy for us to budget. He visited us regularly and was very hands on which we appreciated. Robert had a good team and the whole process went really smoothly. It was definitely really helpful for us having one point of contact to discuss the project. Nothing was a problem; there was always a solution. Robert has a real can-do attitude. We have nothing negative to say about our experience with Robert.

This was my fourth dairy conversion but the first shed I had built with Field Engineering and Construction. I went around to look at a couple of sheds Robert had been involved in and really liked the design and the standard of the finished product. I had a bit of an idea in my head of what I wanted so we sat down and threw around ideas and Robert came up with a few options. We then fine tuned the design which was chosen. It was a really good process. The shed build went very well and I was impressed. There were a few things I wanted to change during the build and Robert was always available. He outlined a timeline for the project and things went pretty well to time. We met up a couple of times near the end to make sure nothing was missed and everything was done to my expectations. I was very pleased with the finished product.

This was a new conversion and it was the first time I’d had a shed built. I knew what I wanted and Robert took me around a few other sheds he’d built and I thought that they were well built and designed. Robert and I then discussed my shed at length and he came up with a design and price. Robert had things organized including all the subbies and the build went pretty smoothly. If a problem came up Robert sorted it. The other thing I liked is that Field Engineering & Construction only build one shed at a time so they finish one then move onto the next one. This meant they really focused on my project and just got in there and got it done. We were very happy with the way it all went. The shed was built in budget and we got to the end with no surprises. Everything was upfront. That’s important.

It's the quality of workmanship and design. I can go into the Field Engineering & Construction office and sit down and Robert shows me the CAD design and makes changes to suit while I'm there. The sheds are bigger, lighter and airier with more movement around the rotary than other companies offer. The sheds are designed to be bird proof so birds can't get in and there is nowhere for them to roost. On the project all the welds were neatly done in the frames on the sheds and everything lined up to a T. That attention to detail is important because I've heard of other sheds where nothing quite lines up and then it takes up a lot of extra time sorting it out. If everything lines up then the rest of the build flows on from that. Field Engineering & Construction's attention to detail in design and construction makes all the difference.

Robert has been involved in building two cowsheds on farms in which we have ownership interests. We like to deal with business managers that have ownership, are hard working, intelligent, honest and fair. Robert is all of these and along with his team provide exceptional quality of workmanship and service.

This is the second conversion I've been in charge of in my career as a farm manager. The first one was for another farm owner and we'd had major deadline overruns, as in five months over. So I was a bit nervous going into this conversion thinking the same thing might happen. The Pareora project was quite a tight deadline - the decision was made to convert the farm in October and it had to be ready for milking in July. When Field Engineering & Construction was aware of when we were going to be milking it all came together really quickly. Robert was really efficient. Field Engineering & Construction were here when they said they would be. They were really organised and did their bit really well and efficiently. Robert was very quick at drawing up plans to get to us to okay them and nothing was ever a problem for him. There were no major problems during the project and I was really pleased with their professionalism, ability to meet deadlines and overall how it all went.

It was a pretty tight time frame - we started the project in mid April and finished by early August. The team from Field Engineering & Construction was well on time and schedule. When Robert says something will be done, it'll be done. He's very efficient. All his team turn up early and leave late and get the job done quickly and efficiently. They don't sit around on long smoko breaks the way some builders do. Any minor on site changes are never an issue. Everything is neat and tidy and the quality of the workmanship is good.

The whole project flowed really well thanks to Robert.  At the beginning Robert came on site and worked through our drafting procedure with us. His rural background really made a difference as he had a good understanding of how things needed to work. He was also good liaising with us over the shed design as my son had worked in a rotary before and had ideas of what he wanted to incorporate into the design. During the build Robert always kept in contact with us and got onto any little problems really quickly and worked a way around them, no matter whether it was something his company or one of the other subcontractors needed to sort out. Robert’s part of the job was exactly as he quoted and everything went so smoothly. We will definitely be using Field Engineering & Construction again for our engineering work.
